Individual Health Insurance in Dade City
When you buy coverage on your own, the fine print decides how well it works. We compare plans from several carriers, check your doctors and medications against each one, and explain the tradeoffs plainly. The consultation is free, by phone, video or at our office.

A plan in your own name, picked carefully
Individual health insurance is a policy you own directly, without an employer involved. It fits the self-employed, people between jobs, part-time workers, early retirees not yet on Medicare, and young adults leaving a parent's plan at 26.
Plans with matching premiums can work very differently in a costly year. One might keep your cardiologist in network while another leaves her out. One might give a generic medication a flat copay while another puts it through the deductible first. Those are the details we study, because they show whether a plan holds up once the bills start.
You pay nothing for our review. We are paid by the carrier you enroll with, so no bill ever comes from us.
What we review on your behalf
- Each doctor you see
- We look up every provider you use in the carrier's current directory rather than an old one. If a clinic or specialist is not in network, we tell you before enrollment.
- Your medications
- Each plan has its own tiered drug list. We find every medication you take, record its tier, and point out any that require prior approval or a trial of a lower-cost drug first.
- Deductible and yearly out-of-pocket limit
- The monthly premium tells only part of the story. We place it next to the deductible, coinsurance and annual maximum so you can picture both a light year and a costly one.
- Network type and referrals
- HMO, EPO and PPO plans each treat referrals and out-of-network visits their own way. We explain the rules on each plan and whether they match how you use care.
- Tax credit eligibility
- When your income qualifies, a premium tax credit can bring your monthly cost down. We work out the estimate with you and explain how an income change mid-year could affect it. Our ACA Marketplace Plans page goes into more detail.
Times to take a fresh look at individual coverage
Your job-based plan is going away
Losing a job, getting laid off or dropping to fewer hours usually gives you a special enrollment window, most often 60 days, so it pays to begin early.
Your 26th birthday is coming up
Coverage on a parent's plan normally ends at 26. Aging off counts as a qualifying event, so a plan of your own can start without holding out for open enrollment.
You have become self-employed
Contractors, freelancers and small business owners frequently pay more than they should. A careful side-by-side can turn up a better network for less money.
Your coverage surprised you
A denied claim, a doctor leaving the network or a sudden jump in a medication's price is reason enough to shop again when renewal comes.
Your premium rose at renewal
Rates change from year to year. Staying put may be the smart choice, but compare before you let the plan roll over on its own.
What the consultation involves
- 1
A short first talk
We ask about your doctors, your monthly medications, the budget you are comfortable with and how often you need care. First calls tend to be brief and relaxed.
- 2
Options set out together
We put plans from several carriers into a single comparison, spelling out the costs and network details that matter for you.
- 3
A clear review
We review the choices with you by phone, video or in our office, noting where each plan is solid and where it is weak. We never steer you to the priciest one.
- 4
Signing up and after
Once you choose, we complete the application with you and confirm your coverage start date. If your ID card is late or a claim seems off later on, give us a call and we will help straighten it out.

What shapes your premium
Individual plan pricing follows set rules, so the same plan costs different people different amounts. We explain which factors apply to you and which ones you can influence. Your premium and your total yearly cost are two separate numbers, and we show you both.
- Your age and whether you smoke
- Rates climb as you get older, and a carrier is allowed to add a surcharge for tobacco. Your health history is not part of the price on an ACA-compliant plan.
- Metal tier
- A Bronze plan keeps the monthly premium low and asks more of you before coverage kicks in. Gold and Platinum flip that balance, charging more each month for smaller costs at the doctor. Silver lands in the middle, and it is the only tier where extra cost-sharing help can apply.
- Where you live
- Carriers price by county and offer different networks in different areas. What is available in Pasco County can differ from a neighboring county.
- Your income
- The income you expect for the year, along with how many people you claim on your taxes, sets any premium tax credit. A modest change in expected earnings can shift what you pay each month.
Questions about individual health insurance
Something not covered here? (352) 290-4271
Can I buy a plan outside of open enrollment?
Generally only when something in your life changes enough to qualify you. Common examples are losing the coverage you had, relocating to a new area, getting married or having a baby. In most years open enrollment starts November 1 and closes January 15. Tell us what changed on the first call, and we will let you know whether it opens a window for you.
Will a pre-existing condition keep me from getting covered?
Not on an ACA-compliant plan. These plans cannot deny you or charge more because of your health history. That is one reason we start with compliant plans for most clients.
Do I pay more by going through you instead of buying directly?
No. There is no fee for the consultation, and the premium is the same as buying on your own. The carrier you choose pays us.
How do I know my doctor will stay in network?
No one can promise that for a full year, since contracts change. We check the current directory and, when it matters, suggest confirming with the doctor's office before you enroll.
What if I later need coverage for a spouse or children?
A marriage or a new child opens a special enrollment window. We can review your options then, and our Family Health Insurance page explains how combined coverage works.
